Mountain Lion, Dead Deer Spotted On Peninsula
County officials are urging residents to use caution if they are in the area. (breaking)

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A mountain lion and a dead deer were spotted early Thursday on the Peninsula, prompting county officials to send out an advisory. The animal and its apparent prey were spotted in the area of Pescadero Creek Road and Butano Cutoff in Pescadero, according to the San Mateo County Alert System.
The animal was spotted around 5:15 a.m., officials said. County officials are urging residents to use caution if they are in the area.
Here is some advice recently offered by San Mateo police on how to keep you and your family safe from mountain lions:

- Do not feed deer. It is illegal in California and it will attract mountain lions.
- If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or with offspring. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.
- Keep a close watch on small children when hiking or traveling in or about wooded areas.
- If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects. Pick up small children.
