Mountain Lion Sighting Reported South of Woodside

The animal was spotted off Highway 84, according to county officials.

A mountain lion was spotted Monday afternoon just east of the La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve in unincorporated San Mateo County, according to the county’s Office of Emergency Services.

The incident occurred at roughly 1:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Skyline Boulevard, also known as state Highway 35, and La Honda Road, also known as state Highway 84.

Emergency officials advise against hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active -- at dawn, dusk or after dark. They advise parents to keep a close eye on small children and pick them up in the event of a mountain lion encounter.
