The large cat was spotted during daytime hours.

A mountain lion was seen in Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve in Redwood City Sunday, San Mateo County officials said.

Someone saw the lion at 1:30 p.m. at the park located at 10 Old Stage Coach Road.

County officials remind people to avoid approaching a mountain lion if they see one, especially if it is feeding or with its offspring. Officials also suggest people avoid hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk and at night when mountain lions are most active. Parents should keep a close eye on small children.

Officials remind people to avoid running if face to face with a mountain lion. People should continue to face the animal, make noise, try to look larger by waving their hands and throw rocks or other objects at the animal.
