Mountain Lion Spotted in Residential Neighborhood Near Redwood City

The lion was seen east of Edgewood County Park, according to county emergency officials.

A mountain lion was spotted Friday night in the vicinity of a residential neighborhood in San Mateo County, county emergency services officials said .

The lion was seen in the area of the 700 block of Lakeview Way in the Emerald Lake Hills neighborhood, east of Edgewood County Park around 9:30 p.m., emergency officials said.

The big cat walked down a hill off the street and into the trees, emergency officials said.

Anyone who sees a mountain lion is advised to not approach the animal, as it will try to avoid confrontation, officials said. People who encounter them are advised to not run but instead to face the animal, make noise and appear larger by waving their arms in the air, according to emergency officials.

The public is also advised not to hike or jog during dawn, dusk or night hours when lions are most active.
