Mountain Lion Spotted in San Carlos

County officials are warning residents not to approach a mountain lion if they spot it, especially if it is feeding or with its offspring.

The San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services is reporting a Wednesday mountain lion sighting in San Carlos.

The mountain lion was spotted around 9 p.m. on Club Drive between Crestview Drive and With Ridge Road.

County officials are warning residents not to approach a mountain lion if they spot it, especially if it is feeding or with its offspring.

Residents are also advised not to hike or jog at times when mountain lions are most active. These times include dawn, dusk and at night.

When hiking, people should keep a close watch on small children. Officials also advise not running if someone comes in contact with a mountain lion. Instead, people are advised to face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving and throwing rocks or other objects.
