Oh the thinks you can think if only you try.
See -- our very first home with a yard that is dry.
We have dreams and ideas but so little time.
A little help from Monrovia would be so sublime.
We’ve a play structure, yes, and a few barrels o’ fruit
But for three little boys this just will not suit.
Think of running without prickles or getting lost in the weeds.
Think of climbing up those mighty oak trees.
(English Ivy, my foe – oh it really must go.
I’m doing my best but the going is slow.)
In the long days of summer when the sun brings the heat,
Think of little feet running in a backyard retreat.
Think of flower beds overflowing with colors that pop
Oh all my thinks that I think, they just will not stop!
Raised beds for veggies, maybe a chicken or two.
We love this backyard but we have much more to do.
Oh the thinks you can think up if only you think.
Or as my Littles would say, “if only you fink.”
Stinking cute and growing up fast.
Soon our oldest starts kindergarten – at last!
Oh this tired mom wants a yard to relax and enjoy,
To watch the kids romp and stomp and do all things BOY,
For playdates and cookouts and a place to just BE.
So please think of us with the thinks that you think.
Think of Mom, think of Dad.
And of three little boys.
This is Janet Lawson's entry to a Monrovia Nursery's contest for a garden makeover worth $10,000. This is the entry that earned Janet a place in the top 5 finalists out of 675 entries.
My daughter Janet and her husband Tim were both born and raised in Redwood City and attended school here. Janet graduated from Woodside High and Tim graduated from Menlo-Atherton High. After college they moved back to Redwood City, married and started a family. Last October they bought a house in Redwood City (a very difficult thing for young people to do these days as you know) and are excited to be raising their three little boys here.
Now that they've made the top 5 finalists, the winner of the garden makeover will be chosen exclusively by Facebook votes. They've been in a tight race for first place since the voting began last week. Let's rally around them and support this local family! Please consider committing to vote for them daily until May 20, and supporting this young Redwood City family.
To vote for this family please go to Monrovia's page on Facebook. You must click "like" on their page in order to vote.
Once you've liked Monrovia's page, you can vote on their Garden Makeover section. Find Janet's entry, "Ode to Seuss: a Poem" and vote for it. You can vote once every day (every 24 hours) until 11:59pm on May 20.
Please join our event on Facebook to show your support and share with your friends! If you have any questions on voting, post your question on the event page and we will help you out.
Let's bring this win to Redwood City!
