SAN MATEO, CA — A potential leaf ban blower in this Peninsula city is on hold for now.
San Mateo’s Sustainability and Infrastructure Commission has put the off any decision on the potential ban of electric and gas leaf blowers until later next year, The San Mateo Daily Journal reports.
Public complaints about noise and pollution landed on the city’s radar, but the commission at a meeting Thursday moved to put off any decision on making a recommendation to the City Council according to the report.

Amid the coronavirus crisis, banning leaf blowers wasn’t viewed as a high priority, the commission concluded according to the report.
Concerns about the impact on landscapers were cited too, the report said.

“It’s my current feeling that now might not necessarily be the right time to pursue a ban or a significant modification to our regulations related to leaf blowers,” Commissioner Adam Loraine said according to the report.
