PG&E Shutoff: San Mateo Co. Restorations May Begin Monday

Fire conditions were set to die down Monday, but PG&E warned that another shutoff may begin as early as Tuesday morning.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Restorations could begin Monday for the public safety power shutoff by PG&E which began on Saturday, leaving thousands of San Mateo County residents in the dark.

The dangerous wind gusts that led to the power outages were expected to end by around 8 a.m. Monday, the county said. Once the wind event is over, PG&E will inspect its power lines and repair any damage caused by the winds. After that, the utility can re-energize the lines.

But another strong, dry wind event may hit California as early as Tuesday morning, PG&E said, which could necessitate more shutoffs in order for the utility to avoid igniting wildfires. Tuesday's wind event would last until midday Wednesday, and the shutoffs would affect parts of 32 counties, including San Mateo.
