Police Activity Canyon/Cordilleras 10PM on 6/1 ???

Does anyone know what was going on last night (7/1) at about 10PM at the corner of Canyon and Cordilleras?  The intersection was blocked off by police cars, quite a ways from the stop sign.  There was police tape across Canyon.  There was a very big police presence there.  
Maybe related, maybe not.  We heard a big boom a bit before that - (but that could have been someone with early fireworks).
