Police To Hold DUI Checkpoint In Redwood City
The department said the effort is intended to improve roadway safety.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — The Redwood City Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint Saturday, according to a department announcement.
The checkpoint will be held from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday on Woodside Road near Carolina Avenue.
Police said checkpoint locations are selected based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

"If you drive under the influence, that vehicle becomes a deadly weapon," said Redwood City Police Chief Kristina Bell. "DUI checkpoints are a public safety and prevention measure designed to reduce impaired driving on our roads."
The department reminded residents that impaired driving can result from alcohol, prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana.

While medicinal and recreational cannabis are legal in California, driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal, police said.
According to the department, drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver's license.
