Police: Man Arrested for Brandishing Gun in Redwood City

Police say he caused trouble in two Peninsula cities.

A San Mateo man has been arrested after allegedly brandishing a replica handgun during an altercation at a Redwood City apartment complex and in Belmont, police said today.

Redwood City officers responded at 5:39 p.m. last Friday to a housing complex on Pelican Lane after receiving a call about a man brandishing a handgun, according to police. Police said the suspect, later identified as Justin Bristow, 29, got into an argument with some tenants of the complex and allegedly brandished the handgun as he was getting into his vehicle to leave the area.

Police said Bristow brandished the gun a second time when he almost got into a crash with another vehicle as he was driving away from the scene.

A few minutes later, Belmont police started getting reports of a suspect brandishing a handgun from his vehicle as he drove around Belmont. Police located the suspect and tried to conduct a high-risk stop on the vehicle, but he was able to drive away and escaped pursuing officers.

Detectives later tracked Bristow to his home in Redwood City and took him into custody on Saturday.
