Popular Roller Derby League Moving From Redwood City

With the Redwood Roller Rink in Redwood City closing, the league needed to find a new home. A neighboring Peninsula city may have the answer

MILLBRAE, CA — Millbrae welcomes the Peninsula Roller Girls! On Thursday, Jan. 4, the Peninsula Roller Girls (PRG) will call Millbrae home for a two-week trial period ending on January 16th. During that time, PRG will use the solo tennis court at Central Park for their practices on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

PRG is a non-profit roller derby league with 45 women who range in ages from 18 to 51, and a robust junior’s league with children from 7 to 17. Previously the league called the Redwood Roller Rink in Redwood City home, but with the rink closing they had to find a new location.

Unlike roller derby from decades past, today’s version of the sport is very family friendly. While it is a full contact sport, sportsmanship and comradery are the key pillars of the game. Gone are the days of punching and elbow jabbing. Modern roller derby is also played on a flat track, which makes the Millbrae tennis court an ideal home.

Every year the league donates over 1,000 hours of community service to their local community. From community fundraising, to building houses, to working in soup kitchens, these women and girls give back with a smile. If you or your business is interested in partnering with PRG please swing by one of their practices or email info@peninsularollergirls.org.

Under the current agreement with the City of Millbrae, PRG will practice at the tennis court during a trial period to see if the location works for PRG and the community. Practices will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sundays. We encourage all Millbrae residents to come out, watch the Peninsula Roller Girls in action, and show your support for Millbrae’s newest sports team!
