Port Of Redwood City Offers Free Drive-In Movies In September

REDWOOD CITY, CA — After the coronavirus pandemic has kept movie-goers from theaters for the past six months due to ongoing public health concerns, city officials have announced a partnership with the Port of Redwood City to offer free drive-in movies on weekends for the remainder of September.

Families will be able to enjoy the drive-in movie experience, which will include two feature films each Friday and Saturday during September. Residents will be required to make separate reservations for each movie, which are made online.

This weekend’s showings of The Little Mermaid, Hidden Figures (Friday), Moana and School Of Rock (Saturday) have already sold out. Upcoming movies include Onward and Jumanji: The Next Level (Sept. 18), Spies In Disguise and Ready Player One (Sept 19), Frozen and Ford Vs. Ferrari (Sept. 25) and Frozen 2 and Ad Astra (Sept. 26). Reservations may be made here. Movies begin at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on each night.

Movies at the Port provides a safe drive-in movie experience in which audio from the films is played through an FM radio tuner inside the car. All sales are made online and contactless check-in and physical distancing between vehicles is maintained and frequent cleaning and sanitation of restrooms is done frequently. All staff members will be required to wear personal protection equipment.

There will be no concessions sales and no convertible or doorless vehicles will be allowed. Sitting outside of vehicles or in a truck bed is also prohibited. Face-coverings will be required when exiting vehicles.
