Public Input Sought on "Community Benefits" from Future Development Projects

The following is a news release from the city of Redwood City:

The City of Redwood City is considering creating a “Community Benefits” program which would ensure specific benefits or amenities are provided to the community by developers, as part of future development projects. The City is calling this concept “Partnership Redwood City.”

As part of evaluating this approach, the City is holding a public workshop to provide an opportunity for the community to get involved, discuss what such a program could look like, and begin the conversation about what types of community benefits related to development proposals should be included in this program.

The Partnership Redwood City Community Benefits Program would establish policies that guide future development proposals to include benefits that are important to the people of Redwood City. For example, developer-funded benefits related to parks and open space, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, affordable housing, programs for the underserved, or others. The public’s ideas about community benefit priorities are already being generated online at RWC Forum, www.redwoodcity.org/rwcForum.

One of the objectives of Partnership Redwood City is to give the City and its residents a strong voice in ensuring that the general community shares in the benefits that can come from development. Community members are invited to share their ideas, preferences, comments, and opinions at the workshop onOctober 15.
