Redwood City Gets New Housing Leadership Manager

From The City of Redwood City: The City of Redwood City announced the appointment of Alin Lancaster as the Housing Leadership Manager. In this newly created position, housed in the City Manager's Office, Lancaster will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic programs that support housing at all income levels.

Since 2015, Lancaster served as the housing and community development manager for the City of Union City, where she oversaw the city's affordable housing programs, administration of the Community Development Block Grant and HOME programs, and homeless and social services policy development.

"I am very pleased Alin is joining our team. She is a smart and experienced housing professional, with a strong history of developing innovative housing solutions," said Melissa Stevenson Diaz, city manager of Redwood City. "Alin's experience engaging and leading diverse housing initiatives will be a great fit for the City of Redwood City."

Lancaster has more than 8 years of experience in affordable housing, housing policy, and community development. In her previous roles, she worked extensively with city councils, residents, and community stakeholders to tackle the complex housing crisis facing cities throughout the region. Lancaster also led a 15-member taskforce that drafted and implemented a rent mediation and just cause eviction ordinance in Union City.

"I'm excited to join the City of Redwood City and build off the momentum of the City's strong track record of market rate and affordable housing production," said Lancaster. "I'm passionate about housing for all, and creating policies and programs to support housing stability for residents through the development of strategic and innovative solutions for our community."

Prior to working with the City of Union City, she worked in the Community Development Department for the City of South San Francisco. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Community and Regional Development from University of California, Davis.

Earlier this year, the Redwood City City Council named Housing as its top strategic priority. In response, the City reorganized and moved the Housing Division to the City Manager's Office. The Division's goal is to foster a range of housing options affordable to all income levels through policies, programs, partnership, and projects that support the creation and preservation of affordable housing for Redwood City's residents.
