Redwood City Highway 101 Fire Sends Smoke Through Peninsula
The fire led to massive traffic delays on Thursday.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — A fire burning along Highway 101 on Thursday afternoon led to a partial closure of the roadway and was causing major traffic delays near Redwood City. A sig alert was issued at 2:24 p.m. as a result of the fire, which was first reported at 1:41 p.m. on the southbound side of the roadway at Woodside Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Traffic reports showed a slowdown on the highway as a result of the blaze. The fire also forced the closure of freeway ramps in the area.
"Update on Woodside Rd. Brush Fire - Woodside off ramp from southbound 101 is expected to reopen in the next 30 minutes," the Redwood City Area CHP tweeted at 3:21 p.m. "The Woodside on-ramps to southbound 101 will be closed for at least another 2 hours. Take alternate routes."
