"The goal of the project is to increase pedestrian safety and mobility by providing safe pedestrian access across Woodside Road."

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Redwood City officials on Friday released a progress report on the Middlefield Road and Woodside Road Intersection Improvement project, which is set to get underway next week. Here's the latest via the city:

The Middlefield Road and Woodside Road Intersection Improvements project will begin next week. This transportation project supports the City's Transportation Strategic Initiative, seeking to develop and support effective transportation infrastructure/systems and programs to enable safe and efficient travel to, from and within the community.

The goal of the project is to increase pedestrian safety and mobility by providing safe pedestrian access across Woodside Road. The project includes reconstructing the roadway intersection and upgrading the traffic signal system at Middlefield Road and Woodside Road to incorporate new sidewalks, curb ramps, crosswalks, pedestrian signals, and roadway lighting.

The City's Capital Improvement Program will fund $1.26m of the project with the rest of the funding coming from Federal grants in the amount of $340K, for a total construction cost of $1.6m. The construction is scheduled to conclude in early summer of 2018.
