Residents were asked to shelter in place after a resident digging in the area broke a one and a quarter inch plastic gas line, PG&E spokesman Nick Smith said.

The break injured no one but affected three customers, Smith said.

Portola Road between Tadin Lane and Old La Honda Road was closed at about 2:50 p.m. because of the leak, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s officials said they expected to keep the road closed until about 6 p.m.

Residents are being asked to shelter in place Friday afternoon after a gas line ruptured in Woodside, according to PG&E and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received a call at 1:38 p.m. of the leak on Tadin Lane and Portola Road, spokeswoman Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said.

Digging by a third party ruptured the line, PG&E spokesman Nick Smith said. Smith said PG&E got the first call of the leak at 2:05 p.m. and as of 2:30 p.m. a crew was on its way.

He didn’t know the size or material of the pipe, but said that only one customer was without service.

Anyone planning to dig should call 811 before digging to locate gas lines and prevent breaks, Smith said.
