Sequoia Healthcare District Elects New Officers, Commits $1.2 million in funding for uninsured children

The Sequoia Healthcare District has elected its new slate of officers for 2015-17. Arthur Faro will succeed Dr. Jerry Shefren as Board President. Kathleen (Katie) Kane will become Vice-president and Kim Griffin was elected Board Secretary.
Mr. Faro, a resident of Redwood Shores is the former CEO of Sequoia Hospital and has been a District Board member since 1998. Discussing his election Mr. Faro commented “I am grateful for the Boards vote of confidence in me. I want to thank Jerry for his outstanding leadership the past two years. He has made a tremendous contribution to the health and well-being of our area residents and I hope to follow in his footsteps and help guide the District to a new level of successful service”.
Ms. Kane who has served the Sequoia District Board for more than twenty years also resides in Redwood Shores. She recently completed her term as President of the Board of Directors of the Association of California Healthcare Districts. Ms. Griffin is a pediatric cardiology nurse served as Board President from 2010-12 lives in Menlo Park.

In addition to the elections, The Board has also authorized $1.2 million in funding to provide 1,000 area children with health insurance coverage through the County’s Healthy Kids program. Sequoia Healthcare District has been a major funder of this initiative that assures that every child in San Mateo County has access to quality health services.
Sequoia Healthcare District is headquartered in Redwood City and serves some 220,000 residents of central and southern San Mateo County. It was established in 1946 as a special district and was the first healthcare district in California.
