Sheriff's Office Hosts 'Healthy Kids Wellness Day' in Redwood City
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Activities League hosted the event.

The following is a news release from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office:
San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League S.A.L Healthy Kids Wellness Day
143 children and their families attended this annual event at the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Unit. The Healthy Kids Wellness Day provided nutrition education, fitness education, and wellness screenings to all youth in attendance. It was a very successful event and kids loved the activities that were provided. A huge thank you to CalFresh, Fit Kids, the Redwood City Library, Community Street Jam, Rainbow Chefs, and the SFSU Nursing Program for volunteering at this successful event!
CalFresh provided a fun spin-the-wheel activity for the campaign Rethink Your Drink and provided information on sugar sweetened beverages. Fit Kids set up an obstacle course where kids participated in various activities such as ladders, running around cones, and jumping over hurdles. The Redwood City Library held an informational booth in regard to obtaining a library card, checking out books, and providing parents with information regarding additional events held throughout the year. Community Street Jam performed a dancing demonstration for the kids and provided information on their program. Rainbow Chefs held a food demonstration and let kids prepare fruit salad with healthy cinnamon chips. And San Francisco State University Nursing students volunteered their time to provide wellness screenings. All youth obtained baseline test results for BMI, 114 of the kids received results for blood pressure, and 33 of the kids received results for vision. This was a great start to the Healthy Kids Program and a great opportunity to promote health education!
