Ships Gallery Reopening Celebration

The San Mateo County History Museum announces the completion of the update for its popular gallery, Charles Parsons' Ships of the World.

A celebration is scheduled for April 11, 2015. The gallery is undergoing a $58,000 upgrade that includes new interactive activities, video presentations, graphics and murals, two of which will be displayed for the first time. This project is made possible by a grant from the Christensen Family Foundation.

The gallery still features the 24 beautifully conceived model ships fashioned by expert model maker Charles Parsons (1917-2004), who lived in San Carlos. The ships are an eclectic collection representing Parsons’ intense interest in maritime history, from a Greek warship of 500 BC to the World War II destroyer, The Sullivans.

The celebration on April 11 will be free to the public. Festivities will include a ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m. and children’s crafts between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. For more information visit www.historysmc.org or call (650) 299-0104.
