Trial Begins For Man Charged In Half Moon Bay Stabbing: DA

The suspect previously served time for attempted murder, prosecutors said.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — A jury trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday for a man charged with attempted murder in connection with a fight andstabbing outside a Half Moon Bay bar and restaurant in October 2025, prosecutors said.

Miguel Rodriguez, 40, had previously served a 17-year prison sentence for a 2007 attempted murder conviction, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred outside Old Princeton Landing on Oct. 5, 2025. Rodriguez was arrested in Redwood City on Dec. 2, nearly two months after the stabbing, police said.

Investigators with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to the business at 460 Capistrano Rd. on Oct. 5 in the unincorporated community of Princeton-by-the-Sea and found a 29-year-old person with a stab wound. The victim survived their injuries and has since been released from the hospital. A day after the incident, police released a photo of the suspect and later identified him as Rodriguez.

In late November, the sheriff's office obtained an arrest warrant for Rodriguez. At around 7 a.m. on Dec. 2, they executed the warrant on the 2500 block of East Bayshore Road in Redwood City, arresting Rodriguez and booking him into the Maguire Correctional Facility.

Rodriguez faces charges of attempted murder with enhancements for great bodily injury and the use of a deadly weapon, prosecutors said.

Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to all charges on Feb. 4. The jury trial is scheduled to start Tuesday. Rodriguez remains in custody without bail.
