VIDEO: Middle Schoolers’ Sword Fighting Steals the Stage

Just because school’s out doesn’t mean kids have nothing to do. Eight middle schoolers were busy this summer for two weeks memorizing lines, practicing their sword-fighting skills and relishing in the stage’s spotlight.

They practiced face painting, improvisation and created other arts and crafts that provided an exposure to the arts that many students do not have due to crippling budget cuts.

Neva Hutchinson, the camp director and teacher at , said that arts and theatre enrich students’ lives and also improve their cognitive skills.  

The following students performed magnificently Friday afternoon in the McKinley Auditorium:
