Woman Killed, Teen Injured In Crash With Wrong-Way Driver On I-280

Witnesses reported seeing a naked man running from the scene of the crash.

WOODSIDE, CA — A woman was killed, and a teenager suffered major injuries in a crash with a wrong-way driver Saturday on Interstate Highway 280 in Woodside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. and triggered a four-hour SigAlert on the southbound side of the freeway just north of Woodside Road. Several lanes remained closed until 6:30 p.m., and authorities advised drivers to avoid the area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Ford sedan was headed northbound on the southbound lanes when it crashed with a black BMW.

The impact killed the BMW driver, a woman in her 40s, at the scene. Her 14-year-old passenger was rushed to Stanford Hospital with major injuries. The wrong-way driver was arrested and taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

It was not known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Immediately after the crash, multiple witnesses called the CHP to report a naked and bloodied man running from the scene. One person told CHP dispatchers the man tried to get into their vehicle, leaving blood all over the door handle.
