Woodside High School’s Athlete of the Week: Swimmer Karl Arvidsson

Karl Arvidsson has firmly established himself as one of Woodside High School’s top swimmers, and as only a sophomore, hopes to continue the team’s improvement through the PAL finals and Central Coast Section meet.  Competing in the 100 meter breaststroke and 200 IMs, Karl has been a consistent top finisher throughout the season, and has met the time qualifications for the Central Coast Section.  In terms of his long term goals, Karl hopes to eventually be a CCS finalist, and continue competitive swimming in college.  Karl’s success is attributable to his long term commitment to the sport, for he has been competing for the Palo Alto/Stanford Aquatics Club for nine years.  When asked what he enjoys most about the sport, Karl commented on the “process of the season”, and how in the early part of the year his “objective is to win the race and not concern myself with times”.  As the year progresses, he likes to achieve his time goals, in addition to beating his opponent.  In the winter time Karl moves away from the pool and is a member of the Squaw Valley Ski Team; and despite his major commitments to these demanding sports and a rigorous academic load of college prep classes, Karl has maintained a solid 3.67 GPA.  Congratulations to Karl and good luck to all the Woodside swimmers as they head into the PAL finals next week.
