We’ve heard various perspectives on the Occupy protests. What do Woodside High School students and teacher think of them?

Every day Woodside students walk through the halls of campus laughing with their friends and stressing about an upcoming test, while just across the bay people in Oakland and UC Davis are making a stand for the 99% and subsequently being attacked with tear gas.

2011 Lockouts Tarnish NBA and NFL Image

Both the NFL and NBA were involved in long, drawn out lockouts that threatened their respective seasons. What do these lockouts have in common, and how do many people feel about them?

The NBA season seemed to be in jeopardy. Dire jeopardy.

The National Basketball Player’s Association (NBPA) had decided to take their case to court, almost certainly ending any possibility of a 2011-2012 season, before a last minute deal miraculously saved what's left of the season. Meanwhile, football fans are enjoying a great NFL season, but remember the worry they felt for their season during their spring and summer lockout. While the football season pushes on and the NBA season comes back from the grave, the fans look back on a 2011 year filled with greed, multiple lawsuits, and a lot of whining.

The New Holiday Spirit

Look at your holiday gift list. Are most items a shiny, new, super expensive device? This is the new spirit of the holidays. But we could do so much better with more personalized gifts.

Stores have begun to display the inevitable inflatable snowmen and Santa Clauses. Neighbors have begun to string bright-colored lights on every reachable part of their house, and then some. The looming holiday purchases have begun to penetrate everyday thought.

Yes, that time of year that little children love so much is upon us, and gift lists are being written as you read. Christmas is coming soon and so is the gift-nausea. But as I have become a skeptical, judgmental teenager I have begun to question this "holiday spirit".

Woodside Cross Country Sends Runners to CCS

The runners had trained hard all season for their last chance to keep the season alive.

All of their long hours at practice came down to this one last meet.  On the third of November, the PAL Finals would decide whose season was over and who would continue on to the Central Coast Section (CCS) Finals.

Sadly, the boys varsity team placed eleventh overall and did not qualify for CCS.  Seniors Joab Camarena and Chris Waschura ran in league finals with the boys varsity team.  They did not get to go to CCS with their team.  However, Waschura’s time of 15:26 for the 2.97 mile course and Camarena’s time of 16:51 qualified them as individuals for the finals.
