Assault Weapons, Handguns Seized; Teen Arrested

OAKLAND, CA — Alameda County sheriff's deputies took custody of four military-style weapons on Tuesday and arrested a man who allegedly robbed an Alameda-Contra Costa Transit bus, an Alameda County sheriff's spokesman said.

The transit crimes unit of the sheriff's office executed a search warrant at a home on 20th Street in Oakland, where they arrested 18-year-old Tyheir Bolden.

Inside Bolden's home, deputies found an M16-A1 fully automatic rifle, an AR-10 .308-caliber semi-automatic rifle, a stolen Sig Sauer P226R 9mm pistol and a stolen Smith & Wesson .22LR semi-automatic pistol. The AR-10 had no markings or serial numbers.

"It's a big deal to get these things off the street," Alameda County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said. "This guy had an insane amount of firepower."

Bolden also had a bulletproof vest, a 90-round magazine and multiple high capacity magazines for the AR-10.
Bolden was arrested on 11 weapons-related felony offenses and taken to the county jail. An investigation into a robbery of a rider on an AC Transit bus two weeks ago prompted deputies to seek the search warrant,
according to the sheriff's office.

Kelly said deputies are responding more and more often to shootings where several dozen rounds are fired.
He said the weapons Bolden and others get possession of are the reason law enforcement officials have been seeking what some say are military-style weapons and equipment, including bulletproof vehicles and
rifles.

Some of the bullets Bolden possessed could go through multiple people, concrete or any cover deputies would take, Kelly said.

Law enforcement officials earlier this month held their annual Urban Shield first responder training exercise event in Pleasanton, where hundreds of people protested the use of military-style weapons and equipment
by law enforcement.
