Ex-Con Charged With Murder

The victim was stabbed to death on Monday.

OAKLAND, CA —An ex-convict has been charged with murder for the stabbing death of another man at a recycling center in an industrial area near Oakland's Fruitvale district on Monday afternoon, prosecutors said.

Stephen Brooks, 50, of Oakland is charged in connection with the stabbing of 37-year-old Allen Beene of Oakland in the 4500 block of San Leandro Street at 1:48 p.m. on Monday. Paramedics provided aid to Beene at the scene and then took him to a hospital but he died there a short time later, according to police.

Brooks was identified as the suspect in Beene's stabbing death by recycling center employees and other witnesses and because he left a receipt at the scene with his name on it, Oakland police Officer Robert Rodriguez wrote in a probable cause statement. In addition, Brooks' vehicle was logged in at the recycling
center, Rodriguez said.

according to Rodriguez.

In addition to murder, Brooks is charged with use of a deadly weapon for allegedly using a knife to kill Beene.
Prosecutors say that Brooks was convicted of second-degree robbery in 2007 and resisting an executive officer in 2009.
