The victim was killed in a drive-by shooting.

OAKLAND, CA — A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder for the June fatal shooting of another man in Oakland, according to court documents.

Eduardo Galindo-Garcia was charged on Friday for the shooting death on June 9 of Joseph Cox. At a brief court hearing today, the Alameda County Public Defender's Office agreed to represent him.

Galindo-Garcia, who's being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin without bail, is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 4 to enter a plea.

Cox's death remained unsolved for more than three months but officers arrested Galindo-Garcia on a murder warrant at his home in the 2600 block of 38th Avenue in East Oakland at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday, Oakland police Officer Kristina Tikkanen wrote in a probable cause statement.

Officers who searched Galindo-Garcia found two clear zip-lock bags containing a white crystal-like substance suspected of being methamphetamine, Tikkanen wrote.

In addition to murder, prosecutors charged Galindo-Garcia with an enhancement alleging that the shooting was a drive-by killing, shooting at an occupied vehicle and possession of an assault weapon.

Oakland police spokespeople never disclosed Cox's death and weren't immediately available for comment today on where the fatal shooting occurred or what Cox's age and city of residence were.
