Suspect Arrested For Monday's Double Murder

The murders carry special circumstances.

OAKLAND, CA — A 37-year-old man was charged today with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for a double-killing in East Oakland early Monday morning, police said.

Francisco Jesus Hernandez, 37, of Oakland, was also charged with the special circumstances of committing multiple murders and committing murders during an act of arson for the shooting in the 9900 block of Empire Road at about 1:46 a.m. on Monday, authorities said.

Two men suffered fatal gunshot wounds in the incident and a third male victim was critically wounded, police said.

But Oakland police said they haven't yet identified the two slain men, saying they are waiting for the Alameda County coroner's bureau to positively identify them.

Hernandez, who works as a truck loader, was arraigned on the charges against him in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland today.
