1 Burned When Converted Barn Catches Fire In Santa Rosa

The converted barn in Roseland was deemed uninhabitable following the fire.

SANTA ROSA, CA — A woman living in a converted barn in Roseland was injured Thursday night when a fire broke out inside the structure, the Santa Rosa Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded at 9:06 p.m. Thursday to the 1500 block of Dutton Avenue where the fire was burning on the second floor of a barn that had been converted to a granny unit, Battalion Chief Matt Gloeckner said.

"The first fire department unit on scene was quickly notified by a female who was living in the granny unit that she had been burned in the fire and made it out of the residence," Gloeckner said.

Firefighter-paramedics treated the burn victim until an ambulance crew arrived and, with lights and sirens activated, rushed her to a hospital.

Simultaneously, firefighters did an "aggressive interior fire attack" and searched the barn to ensure no residents or pets were trapped, Gloeckner said.
