5 Arrests At Sonoma Co. DUI Task Force's Checkpoint

The Sonoma County DUI Task Force screened 1,153 drivers at a checkpoint in Santa Rosa Saturday night, arresting five of them for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The checkpoint was set up from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday on northbound Petaluma Boulevard north of Gossage Avenue. Out of 1,216 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 1,153 drivers were screened for signs of intoxication, and 17 of them were given field sobriety tests.

Five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, according to police. Three drivers were found to be driving on a suspended license, and 11 more had no license at all, police said. Two vehicles had to be towed from the scene of the checkpoint.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
