The fire at a former dog-boarding business caused $150,000 in damage.

SANTA ROSA, CA — Six people were displaced when a fire broke out inside a former dog-boarding business late Sunday in Santa Rosa.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department responded at 11:07 p.m. Sunday to multiple reports of a structure fire at 910 Fresno Ave., near Sebastopol Road in southwest Santa Rosa.

The first crew of firefighters found heavy fire coming from the rear part of a single-story house, SRFD Battalion Chief Jason Jenkins said.

Firefighters made an interior attack on a back addition to the home and put protection lines in place to save the front part of the house, Jenkins said.

Crews also searched the house twice for anyone who may be inside but everyone was able to get out before the fire department arrived.

Additional firefighters battled the blaze when it reached the attic of the home.

Firefighters discovered the house was previously used as a dog-boarding business and there were many rooms.

Still, the blaze was under control within 20 minutes and most of the structure was saved.

PG&E was requested to secure electrical and gas service to the building.

Crews remained at the scene for almost two hours to make sure there were no hot spots.

Damage was estimated at $150,000.

There were no injuries reported in the fire.

American Red Cross helped the six residents who were displaced.

The blaze appeared to have started at the back of the structure but its exact cause remained under investigation, Jenkins said.
