Missing Elderly Man Found Safe In Oakmont, Santa Rosa Police Say

UPDATED: Leonard "Jim" Manwaring, 6 feet 3 inches tall, did not return after going for a walk, Santa Rosa police said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — UPDATED: An elderly man has been found safe in Oakmont after he was reported missing and at risk two days ago, the Santa Rosa Police Department said Wednesday. Leonard "Jim" Manwaring has been taken to a local hospital, police said around 10:15 a.m. via Nixle and Twitter.

The search-and-rescue team from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office found the 82-year-old Wednesday morning, walking in a dry creek bed in the Oakmont area of Santa Rosa, sheriff's officials told Bay City News Service.

ORIGINAL POST: Santa Rosa police were looking for an at risk, 82-year-old man who was reported missing Monday from the Oakmont area. Leonard Manwaring, who goes by “Jim,” was last seen at 9:30 a.m. Monday when he went for a walk to the Kenwood area; he may have also gone to the golf course, police said in a Nixle alert sent around 5:45 p.m. Monday.

Manwaring is described as a white man with gray hair and a white beard. He is 6 feet 3 inches tall and was last seen wearing a white bucket Gilligan-style hat, a white T-shirt, a down jacket, and jeans.

He remained missing as of Tuesday morning, Santa Rosa police said on Twitter.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team assisted in the search Monday for Manwaring and continued to help in the search Tuesday, police said.

The public's help is also needed.

"Help by looking around you: your backyard, garage, shed, etc. Mr. Manwaring may be curled up in an obscure place for warmth or even disheveled looking as time more passes," police said.

Anyone who sees Manwaring or knows of his whereabouts should call 911 or the Santa Rosa Police Department.

"Even if you saw Mr. Manwaring yesterday, please let us know," police said. "If you have any information about Jim's whereabouts, please call SRPD dispatch at 707-528-5222."
