Apartment Fire Displaces Sonoma County Father, Son
The fire department credits a smoke detector for saving the residents.

PETALUMA, CA — A fire on the back deck of an apartment building in Petaluma on Wednesday left two people displaced, according to the fire department.
The fire at an eight-unit apartment complex in the 500 block of Lakeville Circle was reported around 7 a.m.
The two residents had used a fire extinguisher located outside the apartment to partially put out the fire
before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters used a hose line off a fire engine to extinguish the blaze, which had spread to an attic.
There were four people in the apartment at the time. A smoke detector alerted them to the blaze and saved their lives, while preventing damage to other apartment units, according to the fire department.

No injuries were reported and the fire caused structural damage estimated at $20,000.
