Bird Migration Walk Around Delta Pond: Bird-watching and Natural History Walk with Denise Cadman

In late October the Laguna is colored by returning ducks and geese. Bufflehead, northern shovelers, ruddy ducks, pintails, teal, widgeon, white-fronted geese and others arrive in large numbers. After spending the late spring and summer breeding in northern states, Canada and Alaska, they will rest and eat and prepare for the return trip in the spring. We will greet the newly arrived migrants on our walk around Delta Pond. The hike is suitable for teens and adults and is approximately 3 miles in length over flat terrain.

A native Santa Rosan, Denise Cadman is an Environmental Specialist for the City of Santa Rosa. This position involves managing 1,500 acres of irrigated and natural area land in the Laguna de Santa Rosa: planting creek corridors, removing invasive species, conducting studies and performing long-term surveys on plants, birds, and mammals. As an adjunct faculty member in the Life Sciences Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, Denise teaches biology. She is also very active with the Laguna Foundation as one of our docent trainers, science advisors, Laguna Keeper leaders, and a former board member. Denise attributes her career in natural resource management to a love of bird watching.
