Bodega Bay Update: Man Shoots Woman, Kills Himself

A man suspected of shooting one of three women during a domestic violence incident at a Bodega Bay residence Friday morning later was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a Sonoma County sheriff’s lieutenant said.

The suspect was the ex-boyfriend of one of the women, who had secured a restraining order against him, and he showed up at the residence at 125 Taylor Street around 9 a.m., Lt. Greg Miller said. The women were held captive and a fight ensued over the firearm, Miller said. One of the three women who then fled the house was shot multiple times in the street in front of the residence, Miller said.

The two other women ran to safety. A witness heard multiple shots, including one inside the residence, Miller said. Sheriff’s deputies brought the injured woman to a safe location, and she was transferred to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Miller said.

A sheriff’s SWAT team was unable to contact the suspect inside the residence, but they were able to see the man inside suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound sitting on a couch, Miller said. The SWAT team entered the residence, determined the man was dead and found a shotgun nearby, Miller said.

The women and the shooting suspect were from a neighboring county, Miller said.

The women’s names will not be released because they are victims of a domestic violence incident and they have requested confidentiality, Miller said.

The deceased man’s identity is being withheld until notification of his next of kin, Miller said.
