Bomb Threat At Sonoma County Safeway Store Deemed Unfounded

Sonoma County sheriff's detectives were investigating the report of a bomb threat as a "swatting" call.

GUERNEVILLE, CA — The Safeway in Guerneville reopened Wednesday following a bomb threat investigation, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to the grocery store at 16405 state Highway 116 at 10 a.m. to investigate a suspected bomb threat.

The store and the parking lot were closed to the public for about an hour.

In an update at 11:12 a.m., the sheriff's office said: "The Guerneville Safeway and parking lot are now open. We investigated the bomb threat and determined it was unfounded. It appears this was a 'swatting' call. Detectives are following up on this incident. Thank you for your cooperation this morning."

A swatting call is a false report of an emergency to law enforcement in an attempt to bring SWAT teams and other first responders to a location.
