Three Months: A Caregiving Journey from Heartbreak to Healing a book that chronicles the caretaking journey of J. Dietrich Stroeh will benefit the California Senior Legislature (CSL) now through April 15, 2014.

All proceeds from the paperback ($19.95) or e-book ($7.95) sales will be donated to CSL, an elected body of 40 senior senators and 80 senior assembly members who represent all of California. Since their establishment in 1979 they have submitted over 300 legislative proposals to the California State legislature; and 192 have actually been signed into law.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to support an organization that is dependent solely upon contributions made by California tax payers,” said Stroeh.

Stroeh’s life came apart after learning that his wife had pancreatic cancer. The Stage Four diagnosis took him on the roller coaster ride of his life. Overnight, this successful businessman became a caregiver powerless over the course of his wife’s illness. He had to face internal weaknesses and external obstacles in order to take care of her and, when the time came, lovingly let her go.

Three Months: A Caregiving Journey from Heartbreak to Healing takes readers inside the Stroeh household where home care, medical decisions and much needed laughter gave extraordinary shape to an unexpected and devastating illness.

The book also provides easy to read care-giving tips and useful resources, such as how to advocate for a loved one, caring for one’s self, being part of the medical team, and thoughts on how to handle grief.

Three Months: A Caregiving Journey from Heartbreak to Healing is both a love story and a guidebook.  Anyone going through an experience with a terminal illness would benefit from reading it,” said Dr. Kim Allison, MD, Director of Breast Pathology at University of Washington Medical Center.
