CHP Identifies Man, 23, Burned In Windsor Car Crash
The victim is currently at UC Davis Medical Center with serious injuries.

The California Highway Patrol has identified a driver who suffered life-threatening injuries in a fiery crash west of Windsor Monday morning as Zachary Newcomb, 23, of Windsor.
Newcomb was speeding in a 1997 Geo Metro around 9 a.m. north on Eastside Road west of Windsor and south of Riverfront Regional Park, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said. Newcomb lost control of the car and ran off the roadway, then struck a tree and overturned in a ditch, Sloat said.
The Geo Metro caught on fire, and several passersby, including a Sonoma County road crew, used up two fire extinguishers to try and extinguish the fire, Sloat said.

A CHP officer tried to put out the fire and reach Newcomb, and the Windsor Fire Protection District extinguished the fire that had engulfed the interior, Sloat said.
Newcomb suffered second- and third-degree burns over half his body, a possible spinal injury and might lose one of his hands, Sloat said. Newcomb was removed from the Geo Metro and taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital before he was transferred to the UC Davis Medical Center, Sloat said.

It’s unknown where he was traveling to or from when he crashed, Sloat said. Newcomb moved to Windsor in November 2014 and works as a silk screener for T&B Sports in Santa Rosa, according to his Facebook page. A store manager said he did not want to comment out of respect to Newcomb’s family.
