The Marin/Sonoma Mosquito and Vector Control District was formed in San Rafael in 1915 for purpose of protecting the public from mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. The District has since expanded to all of Marin and Sonoma counties, and they now provide a variety of services related to mosquitoes, ticks, yellowjackets and rodents. Since they are funded by taxes and benefit assessments, residents of either county can utilize any of the services free of additional charge.
