Crews Knocking Down Grass Fire Near Cotati

Firefighters have halted the spread of a 3-acre grass fire west of Cotati this afternoon, a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.

The fire is burning in the Bloomfield and Burnside roads area in the Hessel community area.

The smoke was spreading northeast into the Santa Rosa area, a Sonoma County fire dispatcher said. California Highway Patrol officials said the fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. by someone who said their mower hit a rock and started the fire.

Smoke also was visible along state Highway 116 between U.S. Highway 101 and Sebastopol, according to the CHP.
