Crews Spare Rohnert Park Home From Car Fire

An officer helped evacuate an elderly woman from the residence.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — Rohnert Park police and fire personnel stopped a car fire from spreading into a home Thursday.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., a 911 caller reported his car was on fire in the garage of his home on Circle Drive, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety said.

Heavy smoke was coming from the garage of the home when the first Rohnert Park patrol unit got to the scene within 2 minutes. The officer helped an elderly woman evacuate the house and directed arriving fire crews to the source of the blaze.

"An aggressive fire attack from Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety with the assistance of Rancho Adobe Fire District had the fire contained to the garage with no fire extension into the main residence," the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety said.

A preliminary investigation indicated there was a problem with the car's battery that caused it to catch fire.

"Fire crews helped remove smoke from the residence, which allowed the occupants to re-enter their home," the DPS said. "The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family."
