Detectives Seeking Another Clue In Cotati Teen's Murder: A Missing Bose Speaker

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – In connection with the murder investigation of a Cotati teen, whose body was found last week in a shallow grave at Sonoma State University, detectives are looking for a Bose Soundlink III speaker box that the 18-year-old reportedly had in his backpack when he went missing.

"It is believed that (Kirk) Kimberly kept this speaker in his backpack until the time of his death," the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said this morning. "Sheriff’s detectives have Kimberly’s backpack, but this speaker is missing."

On Monday, investigators described their hunt for the white bicycle that Kirk Ryan Kimberly was riding when he was last reported seen heading out Oct. 17 to meet a friend in Rohnert Park. He did not return home and stopped communication with friends and family, police said.

Kimberly's body was found on the Rohnert Park college campus by a landscaper around 3 p.m. Wednesday, covered by dirt and debris roughly 200 yards west of parking lot "M," and was identified using fingerprints. Sonoma County sheriff's officials said the missing teen was stabbed multiple times.

His missing bicycle was described as a white, men’s 2011 Cannondale Quick CX3 mountain bike. It had recently installed road tires, which have reflective material built into the sidewalls.

Detectives said the killing of Kimberly "was not a random act of violence, but an isolated incident," and that the murder appears to have no link to Sonoma State.

"If you have come across a speaker similar to the one depicted in this (above) photograph since October 17th, or maybe your child brought home a speaker box similar to this," deputies said, please call law enforcement.

Anyone with information on the missing speaker, the Cannondale mountain bike or Kimberly's disappearance and death is asked to call Sonoma County Sheriff’s Detective Horsman at 707-565-2185.
