Driver Crashes Through Vineyard, Ending High-Speed Chase In Sonoma County: Police

A dangerous driver was arrested after a high-speed chase from through the County until the car crashed, police said.

SANTA ROSA, CA — A driver was arrested Wednesday after a highway pursuit that began on U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Rosa and ended when the suspect's car rolled into a vineyard in Kenwood, police said.

Around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, California Highway Patrol officers said they attempted a traffic stop on Highway 101. The driver initially stopped on the College Avenue on-ramp but fled as a law enforcement helicopter arrived, police said.

Air support tracked the car as it drove north on Highway 101, exited onto River Road and traveled to Oakmont.

Police said the driver caused multiple traffic collisions and created a danger to the public by driving in an extremely reckless manner, leading officers on the ground to stop their pursuit while the helicopter continued tracking.

The chase ended on the 8200 block of Highway 12 in Kenwood when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and rolled into a vineyard, police said. The suspect was taken into custody by deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office and Santa Rosa Police officers.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect at this time.
