Santa Rosa police arrested eight drivers suspected of DUI during Super Bowl weekend.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Santa Rosa police arrested eight drivers for driving under the influence over Super Bowl weekend, including two Saturday night crashes in which drivers struck other vehicles and a store.
One of the most serious incidents occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, when a vehicle hit the wooden support post of next to the Sisters Consignment Shop on Montgomery Drive after traveling through the intersection of Summerfield Road and Montgomery Drive, police said.
The 34-year-old Sebastopol man driving the vehicle had twice the legal limit of blood alcohol content, according to police.

Earlier that evening, at about 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a head-on collision on Fountaingrove Parkway near Stagecoach Road. No injuries were reported, but a 64-year-old Santa Rosa woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police said the eight DUI arrests reflect the department’s ongoing focus on traffic enforcement, supported in part by state grant funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the California Cannabis Tax Fund DUI Program. The funding allows for increased DUI patrols, checkpoints, distracted-driving operations, and advanced officer training.

According to police, Santa Rosa recorded 14 percent fewer DUI collisions, from 206 in 2024 to 178 in 2025, a decline the department attributes to targeted enforcement and data-driven deployment.
The department earned statewide recognition. Six Santa Rosa Police officers were honored in 2025 by MADD for the department's DUI enforcement, including multiple officers who made more than 100 DUI arrests in a single year. The department was named MADD’s 2024 Outstanding Agency of the Year.
Reducing traffic fatalities remains a top priority of Chief John Cregan, police said, with an emphasis on grant-funded special operations and innovative enforcement strategies.
