Driver Leads Cops On 8-Mile Chase To Dead-End In Rohnert Park: PD

When the driver reached a dead-end on Wilfred Avenue in Rohnert Park, he ditched his car and ran into a field, police said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Ukiah man who had warrants out for his arrest led Santa Rosa officers on an 8-mile chase Wednesday until he hit a dead-end in Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa police said.

Around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, an assault in progress was reported in the 2500 block of Kenton Court in the Roseland area. A witness told officers the suspect, later identified as Daniel Ray Holmes, 28, hit another person and then struck the person with his car.

Holmes drove off in a silver sedan, and an officer spotted the car near Hearn Avneue and Stony Point Road.

The officer tried to pull Holmes over but Holmes refused to comply and an 8-mile pursuit ensued, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Christopher Mahurin said.

"The suspect drove with willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others by accelerating to high speeds on city streets and failing to stop for stop signs and traffic signals," Mahurin said.

When Holmes reached a dead-end on Wilfred Avenue in Rohnert Park, he ditched his car and ran into a field, police said.

After a half-mile run, an officer and his K-9 partner, along with other officers, caught up with Holmes.

He was arrested without further incident and was booked into Sonoma County on suspicion of felony evading an officer in a vehicle pursuit, felony obstructing/resisting an officer, misdemeanor obstruct/resist an officer, and felony and misdemeanor warrants out of Mendocino County.

"The victim of the assault was never located," Mahurin said.

As for Holmes, he remained in custody Thursday evening.
