DUI Checkpoint Leads To 1 Arrest; 12 Citations

12 drivers were cited for driving without a license and one motorist was arrested for driving under the influence in Rohnert Park.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety arrested one motorist for driving under the influence and cited twelve drivers for driving without a valid license during a Friday night traffic checkpoint.

The checkpoint was conducted between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Rohnert Park Expressway near the SMART Train tracks.

During the checkpoint, 721 vehicles passed through, 601 drivers were contacted and 33 drivers were evaluated, of which 12 were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended/revoked license.

A traffic collision at an intersection leading to the checkpoint resulted in one driver being transported to the hospital for injuries and another driver being arrested for DUI.

The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired, according to the department.
