Duo Arrested With $35K In Counterfeit Money At Casino: Sonoma Co. Sheriff's Office

Breaking: Sonoma County sheriff's officials say Graton Casino staff identified the bills as fake.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Sheriff's deputies reportedly seized more than $35,000 in counterfeit money Wednesday after two Vallejo men allegedly tried to pass some of the fraudulent bills at a casino in Rohnert Park.

According to Sonoma County sheriff's officials, staff at Graton Casino, 2888 Golf Course Drive W., quickly identified the bills as fake and notified the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrived and arrested 49-year-old Rodney Short and 52-year-old Johnny Winn, both of Vallejo, on suspicion of burglary and possessing counterfeit money.

Deputies seized $35,900 in fraudulent $100 bills that were made to resemble a much older version than the $100 bills currently in circulation.

"Each suspect had a large quantity of fraudulent money with them and a larger stash was located hidden inside the suspects' vehicle," sheriff's officials said.

Short was also arrested for an outstanding warrant.
