Caliban Dreams

Join us for this original tale, inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest by librettist  Amanda Moody  and composer  Clark Suprynowicz , with world-renowned tenor John Duykers originating the role of Caliban. The recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Caliban Dreams receives its world premiere in July and August, 2011 with twin productions in Berkeley and Sonoma. In a world of dreams and enchantment, the shape-shifting Ariel toils to thwart Caliban's quest to reclaim his island, his love, and to murder the sorcerer, Prospero. A do-or-die battle of wits, wills and spells, and an inquiry into the mystical power of Grace. Caliban Dreams is scored for chamber orchestra and an array of exotic percussion, featuring soprano Laura Bohn, and Ancora with choral master Robert Geary (of the Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir). With direction and dramaturgy by Melissa Weaver, Caliban Dreams is a a co-production of Berkeley West Edge Opera in collaboration with First Look Sonoma. The performances at the Person Theater at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park benefit Cinnabar Theater, First Look Sonoma and Mainstage West. Please join us for this once-in-a-lifetime event!

Friday's show begins at 8 p.m. and Sunday's show begins at 2 p.m.
